Bangalore Dermatological Society was founded in 1992 (Established in 25.7.92 at IMA hall) and is a non-profit organisation.
It functions under the banner of our national body ,the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists.
During this period (1992-1998), our founder members organised the following events,
- 1st clinical meet was held at St. John’s Medical College and Hospital on 22.08.1992.
- In the year 1993- 9 meetings + BDS Bulletin published was published.
- In the year 1994- 8 meetings + GBM was held.
- In the year 1995- 7 meetings were held.
- In 1996- 7 meetings + 1st Annual social get-together at Estate club with ADSI Conference at KIMS hospital was held.
- In 1997-7 meetings were held.
- In the year 1998, first elections were held.
Feb 1998 – in the GBM at Command hospital we had the first elections for various posts.

All this was done as the society was growing; as it has to be registered as a society.
Dr. D.A.Satish continued to be the editor of BDS Bulletin. He was requested to formulate the by-laws of BDS as per IADVL.
- In the year 1998 – 8 clinical meetings were held including the annual meet at Dominion club.
- On 27.8.98 BDS Registered.
- In the year 1999- 6 clinical meetings were held and Social get-together was held at Micro lab farm house.
1999- [Feb] Sponsored lecture by Rino Cerio on psoriasis.
1999- [March] Skin & STD camp at Central prisons with Rotary.
1999- Dr.Rajendran conducted an International workshop on Pigmentation & Pigmentary disorders at SJMCH.
1999 Dec 1st GBM of registered BDS was held at command hospital.
Role of EC was defined
- Annual meets, Judges for best paper, nominates a panel of doctors for expert opinion-ML cases.
- EC to include HOD of all medical colleges.
- BDS to utilize the funds properly-
For funding poor patient treatment,
For seed money for workshops,
For buying a building for BDS,
For funding a PG for specialty courses
To start a PG clinic for exam going PG’s - In the 2000 – 6 meetings + Annual social get-together was held at Patel’s Inn.
- Hosted the 28th National Conference of IADVL,
- Dr Rajendran Conducted Surgical Laser workshop at NSHC
- CME program on Dermato therapy was held at Command Hospital.
Dec 2000-GBM was held at Command hospital:
- Dr. D.A.Satish inaugurated the BDS Website
- GBM decided to have elections for the office bearers for 2001-2003.
- Discussions regarding role of EC members, guidelines regarding withdrawing cash from BDS fund was discussed.
- GBM asked the EC members to set up rules & regulations regarding BDS elections.
- BDS elections were held during March 01 & results were announced in April.

- DO GREEN Program with Dr.Reddy’s Lab-Members Planted 100 saplings at Victoria Hospital
- 2001 Dec-CME program at Command hospital on Cosmetic update was held.
- 2002- 7 meetings + Annual social get-together at Jungle lodges nature camp at Bannerghatta on Jan 3rd.
April 2002- Skin camp was held at Central Prisons with Lions club.
Sept 2002- Symposia on Hair loss by Dr.Anil Abraham was held at SJMCH. - Oct 2002 -Dr. Sacchidanand hosted South zone conference of IADVL
Nov 2002- Derm-Path club was initiated by Dr.Elizabeth at SJMCH-
Quarterly meet with Pathologists - Nov 2002- Regular Skin camp were conducted by BDS at Central prisons on 2nd Sat of every month.

The 5th rural camp conducted in Feb 2012 by the KIMS hospital team was a great success, with 140 patients attending the camp, BDS thanks them for the same. This camp was attended by Dr. Nandini (staff), Dr. Kavya,Dr. Shridevi , (PG’s) , Dr. Vidya TS (EC member).
The 6th rural camp conducted by the BMCRI team was a success, with 75 patients attending the camp; BDS thanks them for the same. This camp was attended by Dr Eswari ( staff) , Dr Satish, Dr Divya, Dr Aparna , (PG’s) , Dr Yogesh ( EC member).
18th March 2012 – MVJ Medical college – Dr. Sujatha Vinod introduced her team and welcomed all BDS members for the clinical meeting.
- ARE MEDICAL DERMATOLOGISTS AN ENDANGERED SPECIES . – DR. M.R.VIJAYASHANKAR gave us a wonderful thought provoking talk.
- NOCARDIA MYCETOMA AT AN UNUSUAL SITE – was very well presented by DR. SEEMA SRINIVASA
- A BULLOUS DISORDER OF CHILDHOOD – THERAPEUTIC DILEMMA – was presented by DR. NITYA. R
- CAPILLARY HAEMANGIOMA TREATED WITH TOPICAL TIMOLOL -was a very good clinical presentation by DR. DEVI PRATHYUSHA
- A series of short cases were presented by Dr Harikishen 1) Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans 2) Eruptive Xanthomas 3) Ataxia Telengiectasia 4) Amniotic Bands With Infantile Digital Fibroma 5) Cases Of Reticulate Pigmentation 6) Urticaria Pigmentosa 7) Tumoral Calcinosis
- The Photodermatology Capsule was an “Excellent ” presentation brought to us by Dr Shruthi Gupta, PG from BMC
- “The role of HLA ” in dermatology was a very useful short presentation given by Dr Ranjitha , PG from VIMS.
- “Steroids on your finger tips” – we should not make mistakes anymore!! Perfect presentation by Dr Sangolli completed the 9th BDS clinical meeting .
15th april 2012 – by Rajarajeswari Medical college & Hospital – Dr. Vivekanand Prof & HOD, introduced her team and welcomed all BDS members for the clinical meeting.
- Four interesting cases- Morpheaform Sacoidosid in pregnancy, Pure neuritic leprosy, sub acute cutaneous lupus erythematosus Extensive tophi Gout, were presented by Dr.Syeda Juwariya Tasneem , Resident
- Radiology: Forgotten friend of Dermatology- Excellent presentation by Dr.Umashankar.
- Skin Tumors: A spectrum of benign and malignant cases– Pilomatricoma – Keratoacanthoma – Pigmented Basal cell carcinoma – Oculo cutaneous Albinism with SCC, were presented by – Dr.Belliappa.P.R.
- Excellent Open house discussions by Dr.Priya .K.S , the cases disscussed were , a)Chronic multiple recurrent sinuses on both buttocks in 47 years old man – Purpura Fulminans. b)Acute necrotic ulcers on both buttocks in 8 months old baby – Promethazine induced necrosis. c) Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura
- Dr Parthasarathy A. MD,DVD, Consultant Dermatologist – Hyderabad, gave us all a wonderful talk on ” Management of Psoriasis with Biologics”.
- Dr Sahana gave us a complete scenario of the common and difficult sign and symptoms of the Viral exanthems.
- Dr Nithya PG student from MVJ Medical college presented ” Novel drug delivery systems in dermatology ” and distributed handouts on the same topic.
The 7th rural camp conducted by the MSRMC team was a success, with 135 patients attending the camp, BDS thanks them for the same. This camp was attended by Dr Praveen ( staff) , Dr Rakesh , Dr Varsha, (PG’s) , Dr Nagaraju ( EC member).
19th may 2012. This program was sponsored by Alkem laboratary.
- VITILIGO AWARENESS PROGRAM -was conducted on 19-5-12 , with Vitiligo Quiz for PG’s – First prize was won by the Command hospital team, and second prize by the Manipal hospital team.
- Vitiligo talk in Kannada was very impressive by DrRajeshwariBhat “BelakinaHaadi “
- Miss Asha (Lecturer in Shridevi engineering college) gave a very heart warming talk.
- Mr Naveen Krishna Tarur fromVicare – Mangalore, spoke about “Socio Legal Engineering to improve quality of life in Vitiligo patients”.
- Documentary on Vitiligo awarness was played for the benifit of the patients.
- Distribution of pamphlets/ handouts for the patients.
- Free consultation to Vitiligo patients was offered from 19th May to 26th May 2012, Large number of delegates attended the program.

- Dr. Shoba spoke on the utility of RF in the management of acne scars
- Dr. Jagadish presented his experience with dermaroller with triamcinolone in the management of alopecia areata
- Dr. D.A. Satish spoke on current trends in the management of hyperhidrosis (Oral glycopyrrolate), acitretin in generalized LP, bimatoprost in alopecia areata and leucotrichia in vitilgo, Spinosad and topical ivermectin in pediculosiscapitis,oral and IV glutathione to enhance fairness, Topical bromidine in rosacea, PPI causing worsening of vitiligo
- Dr. Venkat emphasised the importance of sound evidence based dermatology and evidence based practice He released the ACSI text book Dr. K.H.S. Rao highlighted the importance of obtaining informed consent in Dermatological practice Dr. Vidya dwelt in length about practical utilities of camouflage in vitiligo Dr. Jayanth discussed various psycho cutaneous disorders seen in Dermatology practice and spoke on delusion of parasitoses, OCD, BDD and touched upon psycho pharmacology On the whole it was very educative program attended by the delegate.
The 8th rural camp conducted by the “BDS” team was a success, with 85 patients attending the camp, BDS thanks them for the same. This camp was attended by Dr Jagadish ( jnt secretary) , Dr Girish (E C member)

- Minutes of the AGBM meeting Dr Prabhakar Sangolli, President, BDS, welcomed the members and addressed the meeting. He gave a brief presentation of the whole years activities.

10th – 12th August 2012 – ” ONYCHOCON “ First exclusive nail conference , was held by BMCRI.
The 11th rural camp was hosted by the MVJ medical college team and was attended by Dr Hari Kishen (Asso Prof ) , Dr Ravindra Babu (Consultant Dermatologist) , Dr Anagha and Dr Sushmitha (PG students) , 102 patients attended the camp and received treatment. The camp was sponsored by IPCA. BDS thanks team MVJ, Dr Ravindra Babu and IPCA .
